Holt blinked. He had not expected this. Though he knew he was further along in this area than the others, he did find himself fit to instruct. True, he knew what was required, but he had never taught anyone. He grinned. A challenge, then. He looked around and saw that most were doing very well, no mistakes he could see. He looked back at Master Firians "Yes, of course, Master."
(Ooc: If any of you would like have made a mistake and don't mind being helped by Holt, just put the mistake into your post. And just so you all know, Holt is not a selkath... Ssip is.)

Talau turned her eyes to Va'al and sighed slightly, before addressing the whole group once more.
[glow=9999ff,2,300]Remember young ones...this IS NOT a competition. I sence some competition growing in this room, and that is unneeded. Remember you are all here to learn.[/glow]
She said, her voice holding a tone of warning.

Holt had to agree with Master Firians and, while he would never back away from a challenge, he knew no such honor woud be found with the overly competitive Draethos. The only true competition was in the Great Hunt. And Holt was focused upon such. He had to time nor patience to compete with the now slightly annoying student, especialy on something so trivial as footing...

- Va'al merely smirked, but it looked more like he was about to consume a whole kath hound. When Master Talau would walk by he would quickly hide this smirk. When her tone turned to warning he nodded his head and continued on with the exercise. -
"Holt..."
- That was the name that filtered through his mind. Already he had impressed Master Talau, and he was barely new to the order! This made Va'al agiated, soon to the point where he would merely turn from the exercises and begin to walk from the training room. As soon as he was out he would lean up against the wall, dropping his training saber to the ground and speaking in his native dialect. -
"I do not belong here...What have I done."

Holt was concerned when the Draethos left. Perhaps there was more to the student than the simply over-competitive show-off Holt had taken him for. Though he knew nothing he could have said, done, or thought could have offended the other student, his guilt was no less there. Though none could have told it from his physcial signs. He knew that emotion held no place in what he was doing. He would remedy other problems at the appropriate time.

Talau allowed the student to leave, seeming to pay no mind to him, but she watched his every movement.
[glow=9999ff,2,300]Alright...take a few moments to practice these steps on your own and get to know some of your classmates. I want none of your sabers on while I am gone, and I will know if you do.[/glow]
She said, then turned to follow Va'al. She found him out in the hall sitting against the wall, and she knelt down beside him.
[glow=9999ff,2,300]Why did you leave?[/glow]
She asked. Her voice held no trace of anger or annoyance, but curiosity and compassion. She had a feeling she knew why, but she wanted to hear from him why he had left.

With the draethos and Master Firians gone, Holt chose to follow the latter's instructions and get to know the others. He turned to Cassus and nodded.
"Nish Nerek'toh. I am Holt Syren. And you?"
The Nelvaanian then awaited a response, hoping to stir up a conversation. He hadn't spoken to anyone except Master Firians since he left Nelvaan almost two weeks ago.

"My name's Cassus Coteaz, it's a pleasure to meet you Holt," he said returning the smile. He kept on practicing going backwards, trying to make it fluent and smooth, rather then one foot at a time, slow and broken. "So where are you from?" he asked as he kept on practicing. He smiled slightly nervously and said, "I mean, I don't want to offend or anything, it's just I was never taught much about other races by my pa-" he trailed off, suddenly an unwilling sadness came over him.

Holt watched with careful understanding. He had been tod that he would have to leave all behind. This was easier for Holt, as he was taught to be detached, in preparation for hunts that could last years. Cassus must have missed his family and his home. Holt would have tried to comfort him, had he been any good at that sort of thing. He chose instead to draw attention away with conversation.
"I am from Nelvaan. It is an icy world not too far from Ossus."
Holt watched Cassus' feet for a moment.
"You're putting too much weight on your heels. Try it while standing on the balls of your feet."

Cassus forced himself to forget about his dead parents, he had been taught not to dwell on the past, eyes foreward to the future. He smiled and said, "Oh, I'm from Coruscant, or that's where I was born." He shifted his balance and stood as Holt had instructed, reattempting the movement. He felt it more easy to complete, and said, "Hey thanks! That's what I must have been doing wrong all this time!" He shook his had, still smiling and said, "I guess I should be really careful not to build bad habits."
He kept on practicing the movement, getting better and better at it. The more he did it the more appreciative he became of Holt's simple advice, it was so much easier for him now! He really could learn a lot from Holt, of course not just about fighting stances. "So what's it like on Nelvaan?" he asked.

Holt grinned, he was glad to have been able to help after causing so many hindrances in the past. He hoped that he could help Cassus, as well as others, and that they might help him in return.
"Nelvaan? Well, it's always winter there, though it didn't use to be. It's a simple world. No buildings, no technology. Nothing like this. We lead simple but honorable lives, protecting The Mother and becoming a better people. We keep each other strong. I doubt it's anything like the Capital world."

He smiled, memories of the busy planet come back. "What, you mean Coruscant? I don't think I've seen any planet that compares to that one. The whole planet is covered in giant buildings that touch the sky itself. There's thousands of ships flying through the air at all times, flying in trails in between the buildings. There's even more people walking in the streets, well, the huge walkways. The planet doesn't ever seem to sleep, bright lights and screens on the buildings are always on, it's quite a place." He shrugged and said, "But, it's too busy for me, and it can be dangerous there."
He smiled and said, "I think I like the sound of Nelvaan more, to be honest with you. But maybe it works both ways, people living their whole lives on quiet planets want to see the big ones, and people living on the big ones want to find somewhere quiet."

Holt hadn't yet thought about it, but the prospect of a giant city world like Coruscant did interest him. Quiet was unsettling, you couldn't tell what was happening when it was quiet.
"I suppose so... It seems like quite a place, Coruscant. Seems like it would be nicer than this planet. This world is too hot, too humid, and too... alive. There's no way to escape it. Do you understand?"

He thought for a moment, then nodded, "Yeah, I think I know what you're getting at." He'd never thought about it that way, but it seemed this planet was exactly as he'd explained it. Still, it wasn't so bad when they were in the academy, or in the planet's capital city. And then again, he'd had a bit of fun while running through the forest. Still it was as if the whole planet was... thick.
"But Coruscant is so large, and overwhelming. And you never know who's hanging out there. There's thugs, bounty hunters, people who would do anything to survive. With so many people on the planet, you never know what you'd find there."

"Not at all like Nelvaan, where you know exactly what you'll find. Sixty meter monstrosities with meter-thick hides that would enjoy nothing more than crushing, eating, and then killing you. I'd rather take my chances with the unknown."
Holt smiled, imagining a durasteel forest, having never seen a building in his life except for the Academy.

He laughed and said, "Some bounty hunters could probably do a lot worse then that. And the thing is, you have no chance of defending yourself, that's why it's so scary. They just come and hit you from nowhere, that's why I don't like the unknown. But as long as you don't reveal yourself as a Jedi, you should probably be fine."
"I only like... absolutes. When I'm absolutely sure of what I'm facing. I know there will be times when I'll have to face something I don't know anything about, but I would rather face something I know. Not something that strikes from the darkness."

At first, Holt didn't understand what Cassus meant. Absolutes? The only things Holt knew to be absolute were death and life. But, Holt had never been hunted before. Perhaps it was more dangerous and more difficult. He hoped he would never find out.
"I suppose that would be easier. But, if we only did things that were easy, we'd never grow, would we?"

"Yeah, you're right. But I'm not saying life works like that anyways. The time I actually face something I know all about it will kill me, just you watch," he said humourously.
He thought for a moment, then said, "I hope I never have to face them. My parents were killed by people like that, who come and strike at you from nowhere. I wasn't home, but, when I got home... they were gone. But I got taken in by the Jedi a year later, and now they're my only family." He smiled and said, "I guess that makes you my brother, sorry you don't have a choice." He laughed and continued practicing going backwards.

Holt sighed. As much as he disliked it, he felt bad for Cassus. He had willingly left his home and come here, but Cassus... Cassus had been dragged here after having everything ripped away from him. And though he felt bad for him, Holt did not pity him. And Holt did not think any more or less of him. Pity and special treatment wouldn't help him at all.
"I suppose we are, aren't we?"
Holt looked around.
"What d'you suppose is going on out there?"
