Details:
This ship was designed and built by the South Correllian Speed Shop for Arili. From the specs, its obvious that this is not a combat oriented vessel. The Sensor suite takes up the entire back half of the fuselage, and eats up ridicules amounts of power when in operation.
The ships shape also makes its role as an interceptor some what imaginative. Its not designed for maneuverability. Its turn rates are comparable to that of most large freighters (YT series, etc..). The ships tactic to avoid most threats is to speed up. So much so that an experimental ( And also rather finicky) Anti-Time Dilation Device was installed to allow a conventional drive top speed of .6 c. Most fighters can't push past .3 or .4 tops.
The extensive ECM and Sensor suite allows the ship to remain invisible, or detect a threat long before the ship its self is detected. The Widow is armed solely with fire and forget self guided missiles, in internal racks, all with extended range, so that the ship can fire first, and then run away valiantly . The majority of these missiles are sensor fooling drones. It only actually carries 5 ship to ship missiles in the forward launcher. the rest are either sensor drones, temporary blinders ( huge release of radation, rendering most sensor units blind for up to 30 seconds. Including the ships own.) and various other intelligence gathering equipment. The major reason for the peculiar weapons setup is due to the fact that the ship, for stealth reasons, does not carry a shield system, and wouldn't last very long in a fight due to its lack of turrets.
The extensive use of stealth technology is nothing short of obsessive. The engineers who designed it incorporated stealth into its very shape, and then built on an already stealthy ship with Adaptive ECM and Sensor Spoofer technology. The Adaptive ECM can analyze incoming scanning frequencies, and send back the exact opposite, thus setting up a destructive waveform and confusing the sensors on the affected ship. The spoofer can spoof the space surrounding the ship and transmit that on all sensor frequencies, thus making the ship appear to be not there. ( This only works when the ships engines are powered down). These two combined cause massive problems on ships attempting to track the Widow, and will generally cause them to fall back or loose the contact all together.
The Widow also has annother ace up its sleeve. Its MASSIVE engines. At full throttle they create a visible ion trail their own length out the back of the ship, double that on full afterburner. The major downside is that even at idle, the engines create such a massive signature, that no ECM will hide them. So, they must be shut down for the ship to be stealthed. The Sensor unit also takes so much power that it cannot be fully run when the engines are being run. (The ECM and Spoofer are shutdown when the engines are above 50%). The engines eat so much power that they each have an individual power unit, hidden under the dome at the front of the engine Nacelle. The obvious downside of this is its rate of fuel consumption. And the fact that it requires a special type of fuel that reacts at higher temperatures than regular Ion drive fuel.
The interior space in the ship is less than large. The back half of it is taken up by the launch racks and their related equipment, and reloads. The forward half is taken up by seats and a set of bunks, as well as a very basic washroom and kitchenette. The ship has supplies for 5 days.
